Itinerary
Arrive in Rameshwaram by train or flight and check into your hotel. Start your spiritual journey with a visit to the Ramanathaswamy Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva. Explore the grand architecture and the 22 holy water tanks (theerthams) while performing rituals. Next, head to Dhanushkodi, the ghost town at the southern tip of Rameshwaram, where the Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea meet. Enjoy the serene beauty of the place and its historical ruins. In the evening, witness the Aarti at Ramanathaswamy Temple, a spiritually enriching ceremony. Enjoy a traditional South Indian dinner featuring dosa, idli, and sambhar.
Start with a visit to the iconic Pamban Bridge, also known as the Rameshwaram Bridge, which connects the island to the mainland. Take in stunning views of the sea. Then, take a holy dip in Agni Theertham, located right outside the temple, believed to purify one’s soul. Visit Gandhamadhana Parvatham, a hill that offers panoramic views of the island, and is linked to Lord Rama’s journey. No. There are no ATMs on this trek route. You will have to draw enough cash in Pokhara or Kathmandu. There are a number of ATMs in these cities. Everything is paid in Nepali rupees. So money should be exchanged before the start of the trek.
Yes. The Internet can be accessed in most places. Sometimes, there might be some technical problems. The Internet in Nepal is not as fast as you are used to and at times you can just lose connection.
Not really. It depends on you. If you want, ABC trekking can be done independently. You could hire a guide and a porter by yourself instead of going through an agency or not hire a guide at all. Although, not having a guide can be a little problematic during the offseason.
It really depends on you. Is it your first time in Nepal? How confident are you of being able to find your way around? How pressed on time are you? If you go through an agency, it will be costlier but everything will be planned. You will only have to come, trek and return.
